Emanuel Officially Welcomes New Archbishop

(CBS) -- The hottest ticket in town Thursday was an invitation to Mayor Emanuel's reception for Chicago's new archbishop.

The St. Sabina choir set the tone as the mayor officially welcomed and introduced Blase Cupich to a virtual "who's who" of Chicago.

"Archbishop, you may speak from the pulpit, and I may speak from the podium. While they are separate and distinct, they share a common goal of creating one Chicago," Emanuel said.

Replied Cupich: "I already love this city, and I love its beauty and its people."

Among those listening: St. Sabina pastor Michael Pfleger, who was impressed with Cupich's references to societal problems such as crime and poverty.

"He gets it," Pfleger said.

Emanuel also recognized Cardinal George, the first native son to lead the archdiocese.

Cupich admitted he's still trying to unpack his things, which are all over the floor. He still found time to celebrate Mass early Thursday before breakfast with the mayor and his friends.
