Emanuel: Murder Of Congressman's Grandson Latest Example Of Teen Gun Violence

(CBS) -- Mayor Emanuel said Tuesday that he finds it amazing that U.S. Rep. Danny Davis has kept his composure in the wake of the murder Friday of the congressman's teen grandson.

Emanuel said, during an event at the Chicago Police Training Academy that if the victim were one of his three children, he could not do so.

Regardless of the teen's family background, Emanuel said the murder of Javon Wilson should make people think.

Two teens have been ordered held without bail in Javon's death. The dispute that led to the murder was over gym shoes and clothing, authorities have said.

"What are they doing with a gun and why do they think it's okay to turn to a gun to resolve a difference?" Emanuel asked rhetorically.

Davis, a longtime congressman from Chicago, reportedly was consoled this week by both President Obama and President-Elect Donald Trump.
