Emanuel Distancing Himself From Rauner's Latest Budget Proposal
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Mayor Rahm Emanuel is distancing himself from Governor Rauner's latest budget proposal, which the governor says was negotiated with Emanuel among others, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.
Mayor Emanuel says he is backing a plan for a property tax freeze and increased school funding outlined by Senate President John Cullerton. The governor's plan, he suggests, has undesirable elements like limits on collective bargaining.
"Rather than try to usher in something else, extraneous, you the governor, you ran on a property tax," said Emanuel. "Senator Cullerton's bill addresses that. I addressed that fact that the state treats teachers, property taxpayers and students in the suburban and downstate area different than they do students, teachers and taxpayers in Chicago. We finally have a bill that addresses that."
And admitting his advice is unsolicited, he says the governor should back the senator's plan and get the property tax freeze he has fought for.
