Elderly Woman, Man In Critical After East Garfield Park Fire

(STMW) – A man and an elderly woman are in critical condition after an early Sunday fire in the East Garfield Park neighborhood.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at 3:05 a.m. in the 300 block of South Albany, Fire Media Affairs said. The fire, which started on the first floor of a coach house, consumed much of the building and was struck out about 40 minutes later, officials said.

The man – who was said only to be an adult – was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. The "elderly woman" was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and is also in critical condition, fire media said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
