Ruth Brennan, of Richmond, was driving northbound on North Solon Road near Route 173 when her car left the roadway and struck a utility pole, according to a statement from the McHenry County coroner's office.

She was taken to Centegra Hospital in McHenry, where she was pronounced dead at 4:15 p.m., the coroner's office said. Preliminary finding suggest that she died from blunt force injuries to her chest and spinal cord.
