Elderly Woman Dies After DeKalb County Crash

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 79-year-old woman died after a traffic crash in DeKalb County on Tuesday evening.

Beverly Z. Gainey was driving a 2005 Ford van about 5 p.m. on Illinois Route 23 when the accident happened north of Elva Road in unincorporated Afton Township, according to a statement from the DeKalb County sheriff's office.

Gainey, of the 300 block of North Oak Street in Waterman, was taken to Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb, where she was pronounced dead late Tuesday night, police said.

She had been wearing a seatbelt, but no other details were available early Wednesday.
