Elderly Man 'Extremely Critical' After Being Pulled From Lake In Evanston

EVANSTON, Ill. (STMW) -- An elderly man is in critical condition after being pulled from Lake Michigan in north suburban Evanston Sunday morning.

About 8:30 a.m., the man--whose age was not specified--was pulled from the water at Lighthouse Beach in the 2600 block of Sheridan Road, according to Evanston Fire Chief Greg Klaiber.

He had been swimming with his wife, and when she came to shore, she noticed he was still face-down in the water, Klaiber said.

A bystander began performing CPR before emergency crews arrived. The man was unresponsive but had a pulse when he was taken to Evanston Hospital in "extremely critical condition," fire officials said.
