Elderly Man Charged With Killing Wife In Morton Grove

MORTON GROVE, Ill. (STMW) -- A 74-year-old north suburban man has been charged with the fatal shooting of his wife last week in what police believe was a failed murder-suicide attempt.

The elderly couple was found unresponsive with gunshot wounds in their home in the 5500 block of Madison Street in Morton Grove on Friday, according to Morton Grove police.

Chung Kim, 71, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. An autopsy Sunday found she died of multiple gunshot wounds and her death was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Her husband, 74-year-old Howard Kim, suffered at least one self-inflicted gunshot wound and remains hospitalized in "stable" condition as of Tuesday morning, police said.

Howard Kim has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with his wife's death, police said Tuesday. He will appear in court at a later date.
