Eight In Custody After Auto Theft, Chase, Crash

(WBBM Newsradio) -- Police in west suburban Elmhurst are holding eight people in connection with a wild carjacking and chase that began in Elmhurst and ended when a stolen SUV rammed into a Forest Park apartment building.

The carjacking crew and the 2016 Infiniti's owner confronted each other at about 3 p.m. Wednesday on the 200 block of Grantley in Elmhurst. The carjackers soon took off in the SUV, but it hit a car near North and Emroy Avenues.

When police pulled over the SUV, seven of the carjackers got out and ran, but other officers rounded them up within minutes near 2nd Street and Addison Avenue. In the confusion, the driver took off, only to crash into an apartment building at Jackson Boulevard and Desplaines Avenue in Forest Park.

That's where police made the final arrest.

No one was hurt.
