Edens Expressway reopens after downed power lines shut down I-94

The Edens Expressway was shut down for more than five hours on Thursday, after a fallen light pole left power lines dangling dangerously close to the interstate during the evening rush near Northbrook in Chicago's far northern suburbs.

Illinois State Police said, around 3:25 p.m., all eastbound and westbound lanes of the Edens Expressway (Interstate 94) were closed near the I-294 spur, after a crash caused a light pole to fall, leaving power lines hanging low over the expressway.

All lanes reopened around 8:40 p.m. after crews removed the damaged light pole and repaired the damaged power lines.
