At least 7 injured after chain-reaction crash on Chicago Expressway

CHICAGO (CBS)-- At least seven people were injured overnight in a chain-reaction crash on the Dan Ryan Expressway. 

Illinois State Police said a fuel spill is believed to have caused the pile-up between 31st Street and Cermak Road around 1 a.m.

The Chicago Fire Department said seven people were taken to local hospitals, and ten were checked at the scene.

The multi-car crash caused significant backups for early morning commuters until the lanes were reopened.  

A truck driver told CBS 2 he skidded, but could not avoid crashing. 

"I try stop my truck but I can't," He said. "I hit wall between the two way."
