(CBS) – U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin and a couple of his Congressional colleagues will be joining President Obama on his historic visit to Cuba this weekend.

WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports.

Durbin and Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky told reporters Friday they and Quad Cities area Congresswoman Cheri Bustos are proud to be part of the delegation. Durbin noted it will be the first visit by a U.S. president to Cuba in 88 years.

"This is an important moment in history. If you can remember, as we can," Durbin, standing with Schakowsky, said, "the foreign policy of the United States for half a century, when it came to Cuba, was a policy that didn't work.

"We tried to change Cuba by isolating it. It did not work."

Durbin says the president is showing real leadership by proposing rules that will not only open up Cuba to trade and business, but new ideas as well.

Schakowsky agrees. She says the delegation may also see a baseball game while there.

She says Major League Baseball will be along, and maybe they can do some recruiting for the Chicago Cubs.
