Driver Takes Wrong Turn, Damaging Elgin Ballfields

(CBS) -- Elgin police say a 74-year-old Hoffman Estates woman made a wrong turn yesterday and took out parts of three fences and a flagpole at the Elgin National Little League fields.

Because of the Memorial Day holiday, nothing was scheduled at the ball fields.

"I'm mean, I was just like - thank God nobody was here," said Larry Sabatino, president of Elgin National Little League.

Police said the driver got confused.

Police say no one was injured and they say the woman won't be ticketed. They've asked the state to review her driver's license.

Damage estimate: $15,000-$20,000.

Sabatino is asking for help getting other fields ready because he says it may be awhile before the damaged fields are usable again.
