Driver Sought In Vernon Hills Hit-And-Run That Injured Pedestrian

(STMW) -- Authorities in north suburban Vernon Hills are searching for the hit-and-run driver of a car that left a pedestrian seriously injured early Saturday.

About 3:30 a.m., the car was southbound on Oakwood Road when it struck the person near Valley Road and then drove off, according to Vernon Hills police.

The victim, a 23-year-old Vernon Hills resident, was able to walk to a nearby home to call for help and later was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries, police said. The pedestrian's gender wasn't specified.

Investigators analyzed debris at the scene and think the vehicle was a 1999-2005 Volkswagen Jetta with damage to the front end and lower front trim on the driver side. Authorities haven't been able to determine the color of the car.

Detectives ask anyone with information to call police at (847) 247-4890 or email pzimmerman@vhills.org.
