Driver Charged With Hitting Boy, 10, In South Shore

(STMW) -- A man has been charged with hitting a 10-year-old boy with a vehicle Wednesday evening in the South Shore neighborhood.

Richard Davis III, 18, drove a vehicle across a sports field in the 1800 block of East 76th Street about 5:25 p.m. Wednesday, striking the boy in the process, according to a statement from Chicago Police.

The boy was initially taken to University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital, although his condition has since stabilized, police said.

A police source said at the time that the boy was hit intentionally.

Officers responding to the incident arrested Davis at the scene and found a stun gun in his possession, police said.

Davis, of the 7300 block of South Constance, is charged with a felony count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor count of using a weapon on public land, according to police.

He was expected to appear in bond court Friday.
