Driver, 2 Kids Hurt In School Bus Crash In LaSalle County

LASALLE, Ill. (CBS) -- Two children and an adult were injured when a school bus skidded off the road and rolled over in rural LaSalle County.

Sandwich School District 430 Supt. Rick Schmitt said an Illinois Central school bus was taking students to Lighted Way, a school for special needs students in LaSalle, when two deer ran in front of the bus as it was headed west on U.S. Route 52 around 8 a.m.

The driver swerved to avoid hitting the deer, and hit loose gravel, and the bus skidded into a ditch, and flipped on its side.

Two children and the bus driver were taken to Mendota Community Hospital with minor injuries. Schmitt said the children have since been released from the hospital.
