Downers Grove Man Found Shot To Death In West Garfield Park

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A west suburban man was found shot to death in a vehicle early Sunday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

Police responded to a shots fired call in the 4500 block of West Monroe Street about 5:10 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said.

When officers arrived on scene they found John Serpe, 44, sitting in the driver's seat with a single gunshot wound to the left side of his chest, authorities said.

Serpe, of the 2900 block of Maple Avenue in Downers Grove, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:15 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

No one is in custody as Area North detectives investigate.
