Dog, Left To Die, Loses Battle After Brutal Abuse

CHICAGO (CBS) -- They did everything they could to save a dog who suffered crippling abuse and was dumped for dead.

But, in the end, they couldn't save her.

Now, investigators are on the hunt for the people who did this to Bonnie, CBS 2's Brad Edwards reports.

Two men left the dog in a dead-end dumping ground in an industrial area of Melrose Park last week.

These two men left Bonnie for dead.

Bonnie was badly injured, with fresh bite marks. She was unable to use one of her rear legs.

Tiffini Moberg found Bonnie and called Linda Latell of Magnificent Mutts Rescue.

They did everything they could for a girl they didn't know.

But, this morning, Bonnie could fight no more.

"It's heartbreaking," said Moberg.

Bonnie was likely a bait dog, used in a dog-fighting ring to entice a fight dog to fight.

She spent her life getting beat up until she was of no use to the dog ring and dumped.

"All she needed was love," said Moberg. "She was super sweet, a super sweet dog."

Now, the Cook County Sheriff's animal crimes unit is investigating.
