Dog Attacks Girl, 12, In Albany Park

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A Chicago Police officer fatally shot a pit bull Sunday evening after it bit a 12-year-old girl in the Albany Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

About 6:05 p.m. the girl's family was dog sitting in the 4900 block of North Troy Street when the animal bit the girl in the arm, police said.

Police officers arrived at the scene and fatally shot the pit bull, police said.

The girl was taken to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where her condition was stabilized, police said.

The owner of the dog also arrived at the scene and was issued citations, police said.
