DNA Tests Confirm Remains Found In Garfield Park Lagoon Not Missing Gary Boy
CHICAGO (CBS) -- DNA tests on the remains of a toddler found last month in the Garfield Park Lagoon have not yet led to an identity, but they have ruled out one possibility.
Police in Gary, Indiana, wanted to know if the partial remains of the dismembered child found on Sept. 7 could have belonged to 2-year-old King Walker, who has been missing since July 25, along with his mentally disabled aunt, 21-year-old Diamond Bynum.
Now Gary police have heard from the FBI laboratory in Quantico, Virginia, which said the DNA of the victim found in the lagoon was not a match for King's mother.
Chicago and Rockford police were still awaiting test results which might indicate if the remains were those of 2-year-old Kyrian Knox, of Rockford, who has been missing since August; or whether the DNA might lead to a family in Chicago or elsewhere.
Police found the head, hands, and feet of a child believed to be 2 or 3 years old, but have not found the torso. Investigators said the child was dismembered after death, and the body parts they found were decomposed.
