DNA Evidence Links Man To 2009 Homicide

CHICAGO (STMW) -- DNA evidence has linked a "career criminal" with a violent robbery-homicide that occurred in the West Englewood neighborhood in 2009.

George Patterson, 51, of the 1400 block of South Canal Street, faces one count of murder in connection to the Aug. 9, 2009 incident, according to a release by Chicago Police. He was charged Wednesday.

Between 3:30 a.m. and 5 a.m., Patterson allegedly broke into a home in the 6800 block of South Marshfield Avenue and fatally beat and strangled a 57-year-old woman during a burglary, the release said.

Patterson has nine prior felony convictions, police said. He is already incarcerated for an unrelated incident.

Patterson is set to appear in bond court Thursday.
