Divvy Bikes Offering Discounted Memberships For Chicago Area College Students

(CBS) -- The Divvy bike rental program is offering discounted membership for students at several Chicago area colleges.

The student membership will cost $55 for an annual membership, discounted from the standard $75 fee. Students can select their school on Divvybikes.com/student and sign up using their school email address.

Right now, the discount is open to students at City Colleges of Chicago, Columbia College, Northwestern University, DePaul University, Rush University Medical Center, and University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) with more colleges expected to sign on, according to the mayor's office.

"Money can be tight for college students and making Divvy even more affordable will help students get around campus and enjoy Chicago's neighborhoods," said Mayor Emanuel in a press release. "With the upcoming expansion of Divvy into more neighborhoods and our continued growth of dedicated bike lanes throughout the city, this is another step forward as Chicago continues to set a new standard for other cities to follow."
