Divvy Bike Stations To Close Sunday Afternoon Due To Severe Cold

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Divvy bicycle stations will close today ahead of the historically frigid airmass bearing down on Chicago later tonight that many have dubbed "ChiBeria."

The shared bike stations across the city will close at 3 p.m. Sunday and will re-open when "conditions are safe and stations are operational," according to a news release from Divvy and the Chicago Department of Transportation.

"Given what forecasters are calling 'life-threatening' wind chills, we feel it is appropriate to suspend service," the release said.

Temperatures are expected to plummet as low as as minus-13 degrees overnight with wind chills dipping down near 40 degrees below zero, according to the National Weather Service. Monday's forecasted high temperature is minus-11 degrees.

It's the second time in less than a week Divvy has closed due to the severe winter weather. Stations were closed from Friday to Saturday afternoon due to snowy road conditions, the agency said.
