Diamond-Encrusted Clock Worth $425,000 Stolen From Merchandise Mart

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A trio of thieves stole a diamond-encrusted clock from the Merchandise Mart on Sunday, when they distracted employees working at an antiques show.

Police said a man and two women walked up to a booth at an exhibit at the Chicago Antiques + Art + Design Show around 4:30 p.m. The man and one of the women distracted the employees at the exhibit while the other woman walked away with a clock encrusted with diamonds and mother of pearl.

Lorie Paige, chief marketing officer for M.S. Rau Antiques, confirmed a $425,000 Asprey & Company Mystery Clock was stolen from their exhibit at the show. According to the company's website, the clock is made of crystal, white gold and mother of pearl; and is adorned with diamonds and sapphires.

"We are very saddened by the situation, but we are very pleased with how Chicago Police and the show producers are handling the situation. We are happy with how everyone is coming together," Paige said.

According to Paige, surveillance video from the Rau Antiques booth was turned over to Chicago police.

Area Central detectives were investigating.
