Devin Hester Takes Verbal Jab At Jay Cutler

(CBS) It's no secret that Devin Hester and Jay Cutler weren't on the best of terms in Hester's final season in Chicago in 2013. That was reflected in Hester's role, as he was solely a returner and didn't play any receiver.

Over the weekend, Hester -- in his second year with the Falcons -- shed some light on why that was in taking a shot at Cutler while also praising his current quarterback, Matt Ryan.

"If we weren't on the same page, Jay just didn't say anything to me,'' Hester told ESPN.com. "He just wouldn't (throw) to me. That's just how he was.

"With Matt, if he sees something that he feels needs to be changed, he'll come to you and say, 'Hey man, what do you think about doing it this way? It will give us a clearer look, and I'll be able to get the ball to you.'"

Hester and Cutler were teammates for five seasons. In their first year together, Hester had the best year as a receiver, hauling in 57 passes for 757 yards. From there, though, his production waned -- which you could reasonably argue because he was leaving his prime and also because Cutler began losing some faith in him.
