Despite State Budget Cuts, Boys & Girls Clubs Of Chicago Keeping STEM Programming Going
(CBS) -- The Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago is not letting state budget cuts take a bite out of its vital science and technology programs, reports WBBM's Keith Johnson.
Noel Chambers, associate director for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago, has been hustling to find dollars to keep their eight-year-old Science, Technology, Engineering and Math or STEM program moving without interruption. Chambers says the Exelon Corporation, the parent of ComEd, is now on board.
"They agreed to three years' worth of funding," he said.
Chambers says their kids, mainly from Chicago Public Schools, love their lesson plans.
"Most of our programs are educational, but they're also hands-on, they're tactile and they're fun as well," he said.
Chambers says STEM-based learning activities build and reinforce skills that Boys & Girls Club members learn in their regular classrooms on a daily basis.
