Despite Rainy Weather, Hundreds Turn Out For Komen Race For The Cure
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Hundreds of race participants braved the weather this morning at Chicago's annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, reports WBBM's Mariam Sobh.
People were excited and ready to hit the road running and walking. There were families, friends, co-workers and even kids in strollers.
Plenty of pink was on hand too, from the port-o-potties to the rain covers participants wore to get through the drizzle.
Barbara Mudrich is a breast cancer survivor. She says she doesn't mind the weather.
"Actually, I like because it is something for me to do on Mother's Day," she said.
Amy Sproul is race chair for Chicago's Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
"Last year we had about 10,000 join us," Sproul said. "Given the weather it is probably a little lower but I know that we have raised nearly a million dollars already."
It is the 18th year for the Chicago race and the third year in a row it is being held on Mother's Day.
