Man Beaten, Robbed Of 3 Luxury Cars He Was Delivering To Des Plaines Dealership

DES PLAINES, Ill. (CBS) -- Police said a group of bold robbers beat a man and left him in the snow as they carjacked three luxury cars he was delivering to a Des Plaines dealership.

As CBS 2's Charlie de Mar reported, surveillance video from the Jidd Motors location at 855 Rand Rd. in Des Plaines shows the car delivery driver as he is attacked by at least four people in the parking lot at 1 a.m. Thursday.

Police said the driver was punched and kicked repeatedly, and was left crawling in a snowbank. The assailants demanded the keys to the cars, Des Plaines police said.

"So I know he broke his legs, his hip, his arm," said Jidd Motors owner Adam Jidd. "He's in the hospital and went through a surgery yesterday. He's going through another surgery in the morning."

Jidd said the crew got away with three luxury cars from the trailer and left the driver.

About 20 minutes earlier, police said the same group was caught on surveillance video slipping through a fence at the Jidd Motors showroom down the street at 1313 Rand Rd.

"They jumped through the fence. They went all the way to the back door - came through the back door - trying to get grab some of the keys; some of the cars," Jidd said. "They couldn't go anywhere."

One of burglars busted through a now-boarded-up window and is seen on camera running to let the rest of the crew in through a garage door. There was a scramble to find keys to any of the luxury cars – the burglars checked doors and even offices - but they were unsuccessful.

Jidd said he plans on hiring armed security to work overnight. He plans on started a fund for the delivery driver, who had just arrived on the lot with that trailer full of cars from New York.

No arrests had been made in the case late Thursday.
