Derrick Rose To Donate $1 Million To After School Matters

(CBS) -- Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose will donate $1 million to Chicago non-profit After School Matters, according to a Bulls press release.

"To have a strong community of people who believe in your potential can make all the difference in the world," Rose said in the release. "So many people have invested in me and I want to do the same for Chicago's teens."

After School Matters chairwoman Mellody Hobson and her husband George Lucas were holding a fundraiser for After School Matters at Navy Pier on Tuesday night.

"Derrick's support of Chicago, particularly the care and concern he has for our teens, is an inspiration to anyone seeking to make this world a better place," Hobson said.

After School Matters was founded by the late Maggie Daley, the wife of former Chicago mayor Richard M. Daley. It has served more than 200,000 teens since being founded more than two decades ago.
