Deadly Crash Shuts Down Interstate 80 Near Ottawa

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A fatal crash killed three people and shut down Interstate 80 near Ottawa for hours.

According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, the westbound lanes are closed near mile marker 93 after at least three semis crashed. One eastbound lane is also closed.

One of the trailers was on fire, according to dispatch reports.

The LaSalle County Coroner's office has been called to the scene.

Illinois state police say three people were killed in the accident, which involved three semi-tractor-trailer trucks and a passenger vehicle.

Two of the victims were from the passenger car, and one fatality was from one of the semi-trucks, state police said.  Lanes were expected to be opened Monday night.
