DCFS Investigating Death Of Harvey Infant

HARVEY, Ill. (STMW) -- State child welfare officials are investigating the parents of a 5-month-old boy for allegations of neglect after the infant died Friday in south suburban Harvey.

Jaylin Hampton, of the 14700 block of Myrtle Avenue in Harvey, was pronounced dead at his home at 10:47 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. An autopsy conducted Saturday was inconclusive pending further studies.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating the boy's mother and father for allegations of neglect, spokeswoman Karen Hawkins said. The agency has not had prior contact with the family.

There are no other children in the home, Hawkins said.

The nature of the boy's death was not immediately known as Harvey police could not be reached for comment early Sunday.
