DCFS Investigating Death Of 3-Month-Old Beecher Boy

CHICAGO (CBS) -- State child welfare authorities and the Will County sheriff's office are investigating the death of a 3-month-old boy from south suburban Beecher on Thursday morning.

The boy, who lived in the 2100 block of Kentucky Road in Beecher, was pronounced dead at 6:43 a.m. Thursday at St. James Health in Chicago Heights, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating the boy's parents for allegations of neglect, an investigation that is pending, a department spokeswoman said Friday morning. No other children were involved and DCFS has not had prior contact with the family.

The sheriff's office is conducting a death investigation.

Spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said there were "no outward signs of foul play at the scene," but declined to release further details Friday afternoon.
