DCFS Investigating Death Of 1-Month-Old Boy In Brighton Park

CHICAGO (CBS) -- State child welfare officials are investigating the death of a 1-month-old boy Monday morning in the Southwest Side Brighton Park neighborhood.

Police responded to the baby's home in the 4400 block of South Richmond about 7 a.m. after his mother found him unresponsive in his bed, according to Chicago Police.

The baby was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Child and Family Services said the agency is investigating the baby's mother for allegations of death by abuse, and the investigation is pending.

An autopsy Tuesday did not rule on the cause and manner of death pending further investigation, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Welfare officials have had prior contact with the family, according to DCFS. There are no other children in the household.

Police said they are conducting a death investigation.
