Daniel Carcillo Suspended 6 Games For Nasty Cross-Check On Mathieu Perreault

(CBS) Blackhawks forward Daniel Carcillo has been suspended for six games without pay for a nasty cross-check on Winnipeg Jets forward Mathieu Perreault in Chicago's home loss Friday, the NHL announced Monday.

Carcillo already sat out the Blackhawks' loss Sunday while awaiting his hearing, so he'll have to sit out five more games.

Carcillo hit Perreault in the back after the whistle late in the second period Friday, drawing a minor penalty for cross-checking.

The play "wasn't a hockey play," the NHL explained in its decision to suspend Carcillo, and his past history of 11 suspensions/fines in nine seasons also played a factor in the punishment.

Carcillo will forfeit $40,243.92 in pay, which will go the the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
