Man shot on Dan Ryan Expressway on Chicago's South Side

Man wounded in Dan Ryan Expressway shooting

CHICAGO (CBS)-- A man was shot on the Dan Ryan Expressway late Friday morning.

According to Illinois State Police, shots were fired from a vehicle into the victim's car near 83rd Street just before 11:40 a.m. The victim's silver Mazda CX9 crashed into a guardrail on the right shoulder after the shooting.

According to the Chicago Fire Department, the victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition. Police sources said it was a man who was shot. His age was not immediately available.

The shooting happened near the platform for the 79th Street stop on the CTA Red Line, but train service was not affected.

Troopers searched a silver Mazda CX9 SUV for evidence after the shooting. Police also used drones to get a bird's eye view of the scene.

Police data showed there have been 13 expressway shootings in the Chicago area this year, four of them on the Dan Ryan, including Friday's shooting. At the same time last year, there had been 29 expressway shootings in the Chicago area.
