Shots Fired At Car On Dan Ryan Expressway Near 31st Street

CHICAGO (CBS)-- Shots were fired at a car on the Dan Ryan expressway near 31st Street early Sunday morning.

According to Illinois State Police, the incident took place around 5:30 a.m.

Police said shots were fired at a car traveling in the southbound lanes, causing the car to crash.

The driver, a 38-year-old man, reported that he had been struck by gunfire. It turned out he was not actually shot, but he was injured in the crash, state police said. He taken to Mercy Hospital.

All southbound lanes on the Dan Ryan at 31st Street were shut down for about three hours after the crash.
