Car Hit By Gunfire On Dan Ryan Expressway

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A car was shot late Thursday on the Dan Ryan Expressway on the South Side.

Three people were in the vehicle at 11:41 p.m. in the southbound local lanes of I-90/94 near 43rd Street when someone in another vehicle started shooting, striking the victims' vehicle multiple times, according to Illinois State Police.

No one was hit by the gunfire, although the front-seat passenger was injured by glass debris and was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, police said.

Troopers blocked southbound traffic between Pershing and 43rd Street for about three hours to collect evidence.

State police initially said the search turned up nothing, but later said they found shell casings and determined the vehicle had been hit by gunfire.

No information was available about the suspect's vehicle.

The expressway was reopened about 3 a.m. Friday, state police said.
