Cyclist Using GoPro Camera As 'Insurance Policy'

CHICAGO (CBS) -- GoPro cameras have been used by adventure enthusiasts to capture breathtaking moments and spectacular stunts.

However, for one Chicago man, he calls the camera his insurance policy.

Rain or shine, two wheels get Troy Perkins to and from work. It may take him only 20 minutes one way, but riding though the Loop can be dangerous.

That is why Perkins always rides with a GoPro camera to capture a an accident and to keep him accountable as well.

"If I am unconscious, and police asked me what happened, I can give camera and look at video you can see exactly what's going on."

In 2012 there were nearly 1,600 bicycle crashes in the city and eight of them were fatal.

"If in the event, God forbid, I get killed, it's documented, there's restitution that someone hit me or something bad happened," Perkins said. "It's my insurance policy."
