Cubs Trim Spring Roster To 40 Players With 12 Moves

(CBS) The Cubs reduced their spring training roster to 40 players by making 12 moves Thursday.

Right-hander Blake Parker and left-hander Joseph Ortiz were optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

Elsewhere, 10 non-roster invitees have been assigned to minor league camp: right-handers Daniel Bard, Anthony Carter, Jorge De Leon and Gonzalez Germen; left-hander Francisley Bueno; infielder Chris Valaika; outfielders Albert Almora, Mike Baxter and Adron Chambers; and catcher Kyle Schwarber.

On their spring roster, the Cubs now have 20 pitchers, four catchers, nine infielders and seven outfielders.
