Cubs To Trade Barney To Dodgers

(CBS) The Cubs will trade second baseman Darwin Barney to the Dodgers, 670 The Score's Bruce Levine confirmed Monday afternoon.

Chicago will receive a player to be named later, Levine reported. Barney was designated for assignment by the Cubs last week, so he certainly won't command much in return.

The 28-year-old Barney leaves Chicago after batting .230 this season with two homers, 16 RBIs and a .593 OPS. He was a Gold Glove winner in 2012, but he's declined offensively since hitting .276 in 2011.

Barney's a career .244 hitter and still has a terrific glove, so he could fill a bench role on the right team, but his time was simply up in Chicago as the Cubs turn their attention to a youth movement.
