Cubs To Call Up Kyle Schwarber For 6 Games, Then Send Him To Triple-A

(CBS) After raking at Double-A Tennessee, Cubs prospect Kyle Schwarber is getting a promotion.

Schwarber will be called up to the Cubs for the team's six interleague games this week, when he can serve as a designated hitter and get big league instruction on to help his development as a catcher. After Sunday's game against the Twins, he'll then be sent down to Triple-A Iowa, the Cubs said.

Schwarber was Chicago's first-round pick in the 2014 amateur draft. He'd been having a strong season at Double-A, hitting .320 with 13 homers, 39 RBIs and a 1.017 OPS in 58 games.

Schwarber spent a month with the Cubs in spring training, and he's likely to get a late-season call-up after this cameo.

The Cubs host the Indians on Tuesday night before playing two games against them in Cleveland and then heading to Minnesota.
