Cubs Tender Contracts To 6 Arbitration-Eligible Players

(CBS) The Cubs have tendered contracts to six arbitration-eligible players and agreed to deals with left-handed pitchers Rex Brothers and Clayton Richard to avoid arbitration, they announced Wednesday night.

The Cubs tendered right-handed pitchers Jake Arrieta, Justin Grimm, Hector Rondon and Pedro Strop; left-handed pitcher Travis Wood; and outfielder Chris Coghlan. They'll continue to negotiate contract terms with them and go to an arbitration hearing if needed, though the Cubs have never done that with a player in the Theo Epstein era.

Right-handed pitcher Ryan Cook and left-handed pitcher Jack Leathersich were non-tendered, making them free agents.
