Cubs Sign Emilio Bonifacio To Minor League Deal

(CBS) The Cubs have signed utilityman Emilio Bonifacio to a minor league deal.

Bonifacio has had an abysmal 2015 season, batting .167 with a .390 OPS before the White Sox released him earlier this month, but the hope for the Cubs is that he could add a speed dimension. The 30-year-old Bonifacio stole at least 26 bases every season from 2011-'14.

Bonifacio appeared in 69 games for the Cubs in 2014, hitting .279 for them before being traded to the Braves.

Bonifacio will report to Triple-A Iowa, CSN Chicago reported. He'l then be considered for a September call-up when rosters expand.
