Cubs Send Willson Contreras, C.J. Edwards To Triple-A Iowa

(CBS) The Cubs made 11 cuts from spring training Friday, trimming the roster to 45 players.

Most notably, Chicago optioned three of its top prospects to Triple-A Iowa: right-hander C.J. Edwards, right-hander Pierce Johnson and catcher Willson Contreras. Infielder Arismendy Alcantara and left-hander C.J. Riefenhauser are also headed to Iowa.

Infielder Jeimer Candelario has been optioned to Double-A Tennessee.

Right-hander Stephen Fife, right-hander Felix Pena, right-hander Drew Rucinski, left-hander Edgar Olmos and catcher Taylor Davis were all assigned to minor league camp.
