Cubs, Samardzija Agree To Deal, Avoid Arbitration

(CBS) The Cubs and starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija agreed to a one-year, $5.345-million contract on Saturday, avoiding an arbitration hearing that was set for Monday, according to multiple reports.

Samardzija had filed for $6.2 million, while the Cubs offered $4.4 million. He went 8-13 with a 4.34 ERA last season.
