Cubs Recall Albert Almora Jr., Add 4 Others

(CBS) The Cubs' playoff push has added reinforcements to the fold.

Rookie outfielder Albert Almora Jr. has rejoined the team, along with catcher C.J. Federowicz, infielder Munenori Kawasaki and right-hander Spencer Patton. Additionally, setup man Hector Rondon is back with the team, as Cubs manager Joe Maddon informed the Spiegel & Goff Show on Tuesday afternoon. They've all joined Chicago ahead of Tuesday evening's game at Milwaukee.

Almora, 22, hit .265 during his 34 games with the Cubs earlier this season. He was demoted back to Triple-A Iowa in a move that could be attributed to strong team depth at the big league level.

In accordance with September call-ups, the Cubs can expand their roster up to 40 players if so desired, which could help key starters rest leading up to the postseason.

The Cubs' roster currently stands at 34 players.
