Cubs Place Tommy La Stella On DL, Recall Chris Coghlan

(CBS) Chris Coghlan's return to the Cubs didn't require a wait, as the reacquired outfielder joined the team Friday after infielder Tommy La Stella was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain.

Coghlan, 30, was acquired by the Cubs on Thursday in a deal that sent Arismendy Alcantara to the Oakland A's.

Playing for the Cubs in 2014 and 2015, Coghlan hit .265 with 25 home runs in 273 games. He had hit just .146 with the A's this season after being traded for pitcher Aaron Brooks in the offseason.

La Stella is hitting .291 with two home runs and seven RBIs this season.

The Cubs open a three-game series against the Braves in Atlanta on Friday night.
