Cubs Place Jason Hammel On Bereavement List, Recall Justin Grimm

(CBS) The Cubs have placed right-hander Jason Hammel on the bereavement list and recalled righty reliever Justin Grimm prior to Wednesday afternoon's home game against the Marlins.

Hammel threw six scoreless innings and picked up the win in Chicago's 3-2 victory against Miami on Tuesday. He's expected to make his next start, which is scheduled for next Tuesday. The Cubs have the benefit of two off days coming up, on Thursday and next Monday, with a West Coast flight and three-game set in Oakland in between.

Under MLB rules, players on the bereavement list must sit out a minimum of three games and a maximum of seven.

Grimm has a 4.72 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 45 appearances for the Cubs this season.
