Cubs Part Ways With LHP Brian Matusz, Recall RHP Spencer Patton

(CBS) Left-hander Brian Matusz's career with the Cubs lasted one outing.

A day after Matusz allowed six earned runs in three innings of a game the Cubs would eventually win in extra innings, Chicago designated him for assignment and recalled righty reliever Spencer Patton from Triple-A Iowa.

Patton has a 5.11 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in nine appearances in the big leagues this season.
