Cubs Name Kyle Schwarber Minor League Player Of Month For May

(CBS) The Cubs have named catcher Kyle Schwarber the organization's minor league player of the month for May and right-hander Ryan Williams as the pitcher of the month.

Schwarber, 22, hit .297 with two doubles, eight homers, 18 runs and 17 RBIs in 28 games at Double-A Tennessee in May. He also had a 1.026 OPS and .443 on-base percentage. He led all Cubs prospects in homers, walks, slugging percentage and OPS in May.

Schwarber's hitting .312 with 12 homers and 32 RBIs for the season.

Williams, 23, was 2-1 with a 1.59 ERA in five starts at Single-A South Bend in May. He had 23 strikeouts and walked non in 34 innings.

Williams is 4-1 with a 1.17 ERA in 53 2/3 innings pitched this season at South Bend.
